Pre-Resume™--
The Big Picture

Always keep in mind that your resume is not written for you--it is written for the hiring manager. Too many resumes are an "ode" to the person whose name resides at the top of the page.

Understand that the LEAST important information on a resume is your NAME. The hiring manager doesn't care about you--not yet at least. The hiring manager cares about the content of your resume and how you might add value to the organization; how you might be the solution to the problem they are hiring for. If you can state how you will add value, save time--or as is the title of my book: Make the company money or save the company money--you will get the interview.

WELCOME TO THE PRE-RESUME™

Over my years of calling on HR/Recruiting professionals the one thing I noticed, and continue to notice, is the disconnect that exists between recruiters/hiring managers/business owners and job seekers. It was with this reason in mind that a few years back I created my own resume format and coined the term: The Pre-Resume™.

The Pre-Resume™ is designed for one purpose only: to get you the appointment!

You will still require a long-form resume to submit when someone calls and says 'they need more information'.

Regardless if you are an entry-level job seeker or if you have several years of employment history--the Pre-Resume™ will work for you.

What follows is the Jerry Job Seeker sample Pre-Resume™.

Brief notes accompany the sample along the left margin but I can't begin to explain all the reasons for my format in this single page. The first 4 chapters of The Real Secret to Finding a Job book focus on your completing a personal inventory for an Accomplishments Worksheet from which you will choose the 4 accomplishments for your Pre-Resume™; the where's, how's and why's of the Pre-Resume format and, finally, lessons on resume-filtering software that is so much a part of why your are NOT hearing back from online submissions--you MUST learn how to play the keywords" game"!

The Real Secret to Finding a Job book also has chapters focused on The Entry-Level Pre-Resume™, The Professional Mom's (aka the stay-at-home mom) Pre-Resume ™ and The IT Professional's Pre-Resume™.

Remember that all I can show you on this single page is just the tip of the iceberg!

Good (job) hunting to all of you!
